A summer position at Stillpoint is more than just a job. This year we are looking for mature people who will commit to a life style that supports the same purpose we provide for our guests. On a daily basis we will find independent and collective ways to move closer to one another, nature, and a Source beyond ourselves. We welcome the diversity of those belonging to a particular world faith, and those not affiliated with an organized religion.
Positions: coordinator/community facilitator, chef, massage therapist, gardener, guide for kayaking and hiking, groundskeeper, gardener, and handy-man or woman.
VOLUNTEERS
A few guests have asked if they might volunteer at Stillpoint for an extended period of time. We now have a program that enables those with the necessary skills listed above to volunteer for a minimum of three weeks. Volunteer positions may be a path to join the paid staff in the future.
Living and working as a community of employees and volunteers at this amazing place will be both transforming and challenging. We recommend that applicants have a commitment to a spiritual practice and be eager to work in an environment that will expand their understanding of what it means to live and work with intentional focus.

Employees who work at Stillpoint are enthusiastic, energetic and outgoing individuals with a personal and proven commitment to excellent guest service. Our team management approach provides an informal relaxed atmosphere for employees including hiking, kayaking, wildlife viewing, camping, climbing and fishing.
At the same time, we expect a commitment to hard work and for all employees to help create and maintain a positive environment for our guests. Working at Stillpoint can be fun, rewarding, exciting and demanding. Unlike larger resorts, the team works together. Although some will specialize in certain jobs, most will be expected to clean cabins, garden and help in the kitchen. The season runs from May 13 through October 7. Those who remain for the duration of the season will receive a $1000 bonus.
It’s important that our Stillpoint Employees be:
- Physically fit and able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- hard-working
- willing to take directions without back chat
- willing and able to work up to 60 hours per week
- well-groomed
- polite
- able to get along well with other staff and guests
- willing and able to give a helping hand to whatever is asked of you (within limits)
- detail oriented
Because we are a small lodge (12 cabins), you will need to be able to multi-task in three or four of the following areas:
- Guiding - educated in Alaskan flora, and fauna , hiking, and leading groups
- Kayaking – credentialed and experienced with groups
- Cook assistant – experienced in pre-work, cleaning and dishwashing
- Organic gardening – love of gardening a bonus (our large organic garden provides food for the kitchen throughout the summer)
- Housekeeping (lodge, cabins, and owners’ residence) – enjoyment of preparing a clean, neat environment for future guests with attention to details and in a timely manner
- Massage therapist – licensed and experienced
- Yoga instructor – trained and experienced
- Handy man – skilled in carpentry
- Cook/Chef – Culinary knowledge and experience
- Cooking health-conscious meals using fresh produce and herbs
- Incorporating up-scale presentation methodology
- Shopping/budgeting
- Tending herb garden and green house
This is a non-smoking, pet free environment.
PAY:
The rate of pay will vary depending on the job and experience. A bonus of $1000 will be given if an employee remains to the end of the season (October 4). Because of the limited number of days in our summer season, all employees will be asked to commit to the schedule determined by the bookings of guests, not to exceed 60 hours a week. We will attempt to provide time off each week, but there will be times when this will not be possible. Employees begin work on May 21.
Employees will receive a salary in compliance with the State of Alaska’s wage-and-hour requirements to include a 10-hour workday. No sick or paid vacation leave, health insurance, overtime or retirement benefits are provided. Housing will be provided and some meals.
The employee cabins are newly constructed. The employee lounge has a kitchen, bath, television, and Wi-Fi Internet access. Due to the four to six employees who will be living and working closely together for many hours a day, congeniality is important.
Working a seasonal job can be intense. Stillpoint often has very busy long hours of hard work followed by periods of downtime. Our employees have earned a reputation as a team who give 100% effort to provide the very best positive experience for our guests.
We invite you to consider the realities of working in such a remote location and of living in close proximity with others. Additionally, employees will spend their down time on workdays in this rural area. Halibut Cove has no roads and is surrounded by water. The closest town is Homer, a ferry ride away. However, this setting of great natural beauty during the long daylight hours of summer will delight those who enjoy nature, reading, painting, taking photos, hiking and kayaking. Our quiet atmosphere is not conducive to those who prefer nightlife and parties.
