What does writing do in the world and for the world?
How do you protect and nurture your creative place?
How do you feed yourself beauty?

This retreat is designed for published or unpublished writers, as well as those who simply want to better communicate through words in their work or personal lives.
Our retreat begins with dinner on Saturday and ends after breakfast on Wednesday.
These days are designed to nurture the writer’s heart and soul.

Morning hours will include:

  • writing exercises
  • exercises in the discipline of seeing ordinary life in a new way
  • exploration of how wounds and “dark nights of the soul” feed creativity
  • looking at authenticity in writing
  • ways of finding your voice
  • and more.

Afternoons will be opportunities to find solitude for writing while:

  • hiking to a nearby glacier.
  • kayaking.
  • sunning on the deck of your cabin overlooking the still waters.
  • sitting quietly watching eagles fly overhead.

Each evening we’ll share the harvest of our day’s work.

We encourage you, if possible, to arrive in Anchorage  a day early, spend the night, then drive the spectacular road from Anchorage to Homer, Alaska on July 26th (4 1/2 hours, unless you linger).  This will give you time to ease into the workshop.  By the time you arrive in Homer to catch the boat to Halibut Cove, you’ll already know you’re home.  If you like, can help you arrange a van rental with others.

Experience this retreat in the most beautiful retreat setting in North America – a setting in nature unparalleled in its pristine remoteness, in its intimacy with one of the last great wilderness frontiers in the world.  Here, you will be close to the abundant wildlife that thrives on the land and in the waters, and you will see colors of the sky that only native Alaskans can imagine.

Paula says:  “For thirty years I have traveled the globe, and Halibut Cove, Alaska is as beautiful a spot as I know.  The pure, compelling force of nature will change you.  I cannot think of a more perfect place for writers.”
